Arctic/Antarctic

I have made a quite a few posts about Tundra, Arctic, and Antarctic animals, but here on this tab, I'll share more with you! Here is one now:

Snowy Owl
Diet: Lemmings, rodents, ptarmigans, hares, squirrels, muskrats, rabbits, raccoons, prarie dogs, rats, moles, duck, geese, pheasants, gulls, and songbirds
Appearance:White, yellow, grey, black
Weight: 3.5 -6.6 pounds
Length: 20-28 inches
Habitat: Tundra of Alaska, Canada, and Eurasia
Enemies: Arctic foxes, grey wolves
Life Span: 9 1/2 years
The difference between a male and a female snowy owl is that the females have grey specks on their white feathers and the males are usually pure white. Sometimes the males will have a few specks but not as much as the females.



Snow Leopard
Diet: Bharals, Himalayan tahr, markhor, argali, hares, ibex, langur monkeys, deer, wild boars, marmots, pikas, birds
Appearance: White or grey fur, blue or green eyes, pink nose, black or grey spots
Weight: 60 to 120 pounds
Length: 30 to 50 inches
Habitat: Tundra parts of Central Asia
Enemies: Wolves, humans
Life Span: 15-18 years
These leopards are endangered. They prefer to attack from above.


Arctic Wolf
Diet: Caribou, muskoxen, ptarmigan, arctic hares, arctic fox, lemmings, seals
Appearance: White and cream
Weight: 175 pounds
Length: 80-137 cm
Habitat: Tunda parts of Canada, Greenland, and Alaska
Enemies: Humans, other wolves, polar bears
Life Span: 7 years





Arctic Skua
Diet: Rodents, birds, insects
Appearance: Grey feathers, black face, white belly
Weight: 12-20 ounces
Length: 16-19 inches
Habitat: Eurasia, North America, Scotland, etc. (tundras)
Enemies: Crabs, other skuas
Life Span: 12 years
These birds are known as pirates, because they steal food from other birds.
 

Rock Ptarmigan
Diet: Birch, buds, seeds, leaves, flowers, insects, berries
Appearance: Grey, white, or black feathers
Weight: 15-20 ounces
Length: 13-14 inches
Habitat: Tundra of Canada, Greenland, Eurasia, Asia
Enemies: Hawks, foxes, owls
Life Span: 4 or more years

The Rock Ptarmigan is also known as the Partridge or Snow Chicken. These birds camouflage from predators, changing their feathers season by season.


Emperor Penguin
Diet: Squid, fish, krill, crustaceans
Appearance: Black/grey feathers, white tummy, yellow neck, black face (adults), grey feathers, white tummy, black/white head (chicks)
Weight: 49 to 99 pounds
Length: 112 cm
Habitat: Antarctica
Enemies: Humans, leopard seals, killer whales, sea lions, walruses
Life Span: 20 to 50 years
Emperor penguins are the tallest and heaviest of all birds in Antarctica.
